Today on The Worst, we interviewed megawatt comedian Kyle Kinane.

Do different parts of the country have different senses of humor?

Somewhat. It’s ironic that playing in some of the more conservative areas like Texas or Arizona can be more fun because they’re not hung up on political correctness. They came to a comedy show to laugh, and check their issues at the door. They’ll laugh at themselves even if it’s some liberal putz from LA because they know why they came to a comedy club. I’ve been surprised after shows in Phoenix and Dallas, because instead of getting defensive about their differing views, they just laugh because they know it’s okay to do that in a comedy club. Sometimes you get in front of a “liberal” audience and they have so many mental hurdles set up before they can laugh at something.

How freeing is bombing? Do you have to fail big to win big, so to speak?

It’s freeing because it reminds me that I’m never done with comedy. There’s no sense of figuring it out. Bombing is the tap on the shoulder that says “See? This is still a part of it.”

You never perfect comedy, which is what makes it the perfect lifestyle. There’s no end point. You just keep studying.

A punk band whose first show likely caused a notable riot really needs no further questioning—they’ve clearly housed the axe-flailing destruction of the bluntest of genres. With this in mind, Sublime barely needs introduction. Their fusion of reggae and dub infused the incoming third wave of ska with an island flavor that most likely spurred the “Peninsula Riot” on their first show ever, and later tore through Metro during their April 20, 1996, gig. Just on the cusp of cementing themselves in ‘90s alt-rock history and barely a month before the death of lead singer Bradley Nowell, time has transformed the hell-raising rock gig into an unknowing farewell. Wesley Willis Fiasco and DFL were charged with the undertaking of opening for the West Coast punks, but nothing was compared to the headlining act. On the verge of calling it quits and gearing up for the release of their third and final studio album, the California ska punk band played their Metro show like it was their last, rapid-firing dizzying rhythms and screw-turning bass grooves. There’s no question that Sublime left with as much of a bang as when they arrived.

Looking to reminisce about those dodgy mosh pits and deafening riffs? Don’t even try without listening to this live version of “Date Rape.”

I was at this show. It sucked. Don’t do drugs. Or at least do them after you play the show.

Seems from this first teaser as Adam Cayton-Holland, Ben Roy, and Andrew Orvedahl play teachers in Colorado, though they’re still pretty much themselves from their previous roles as self-absorbed, conniving comedians.

IVE BEEN WAITING FOR BANDS/VENUES TO DO THIS. My former method of retaliation was to hold my phone up directly in front of the offender’s phone, wait for them to give me a dirty look, and respond, “Oh, I’m sorry. Am I obstructing your view of the performance?” I mean, my way is still pretty fun, but I’d rather just watch the show with out some asshole thinking his/her shaky iPhone footage is going to capture the memories he/she is too MDMA’d out to remember for himself.

Sometimes it’s okay to just live our lives without documentation. Actually, MOST times our life doesn’t need documentation.
