John Roy: Three Tales of Jimmy Pardo
One of the comedians who helped me at the beginning was a fellow Chicagoan named Jimmy Pardo. Here he is in a really funny piece from Conan, where he also works as the warm up comic for every episode they shoot.

John has been writing some great pieces about developing as a standup. When others in the Chicago crew opted to stay in the city and huddle up at open mics, John was one of the few who trekked out on the road early to babysit the drunkards. Fortunately for us, he made it back alive. This is a essay about what it’s like to work the road while also trying to find your voice as a comic. A must-read if you’re even considering comedy.
I have the pleasure of opening for John on Friday, February 22nd, when he records his album at Meltdown Comics in LA. If you’re in town, I suggest you see one of the best joke writers working today. John will be performing as well.
